Brooklyn, MI -- Fernando Cabral had the dominant car all day, only failing to lead less than a dozen of the laps completed in Sunday's Flag 200. Cabral was followed early by Alex Faust in a breakthrough performance from his early race woes in weeks leading up to Sunday's event. Though, he slowly faded back.
For the first time all year, the ERCO SuperCar Series saw a round of green-flag pit stops during a long run midway through the race. That long run signaled the end of the second place performance for Alex Faust. His car had handling problems during the long runs which were never corrected. Meanwhile, Fernando Cabral continued to have an enormous lead until a rash of cautions plagued the last third of the race.
That set up a nine lap shootout to the end of the race in which Brian Schoenburg was able to get along side byt not quite pass Fernando Cabral. With Cabral taking the win, Schoenburg finished second with debut starter Jon Iaccino in third. Faust moved up to finish eighth after Brandan Gray, originally running third, was penalized a lap after the race due to not adhering to an jumped restart penalty earlier. That penalty is currently under appeal.
For Faust, it was a hugh sigh of relief for a team that has been plagued week after week by early race altercations. "We made it.," were the first words that Faust said after climbing out of the car, "Well now that we can finally get through one of these deals, I think it'll definately build momentum for our points chase."
