New York, NY -- Last night marked the return of ASRA in the NR2003 realm as the National Championship Series, their IndyCar division, got underway with an exiting race. Roger Nebelsick, Mike Peters and Alex Faust all shared the top spot during the race, with Faust leading 73 of 94 laps.
The race had one caution early when Ken Rork spun right in front of Tim Terry and slammed hard into the outside wall, flipping over. After a long green flag run that brought green flag pit stops, Mike Peters spun coming onto pit road for his stop, causing Tyler Tucker to swerve and spin as well. Both returned to the race, but it set up a dash to the finish.
With under 10 laps to go, Peters and Nebelsick were side by side going into turn one. As they made contact, Peters' car swerved hard into the outside wall, crushing the right front wheel. That set up a three lap shootout in which Faust was able to pull away for the win. Roger Nebelsick finished second with Tyler Tucker in third.
For Faust, it was his sixth win in ASRA competition and his first since Pocono in the fall of 2004 in a close finish with Roger Nebelsick. "It is great to be back here and we had a great race," he said after the race, "We'll go to Indy with an even bigger field and I think we can do the same."
