New York, NY -- Saturday night marked the return of the AOSCA National Cup Series, after being dormant for nearly a year due to financial woes. A 22 car field was more than impressive for founder Ken Rork and director of competition Brian Webb. Their formulation for a league based on the virtual money system already implicated in the ESCORS series gave optimism to drivers and owners left stranded by the rise and fall of ARSA.
Trevor Raiseck, driving a brand new car #01 for owner Clint Monahan was able to drive away late in the race from Allen Lewis, who had the dominant car, leading 37 of 70 laps. Those two, and only four other cars made it through a lap one crash unscathed. The crash caught up possible championship contenders Frankie Stickley and Scott Kocienda.
Michael Johnson, leading 21 laps early, finished third with Kevin Bartelt and Ricky Sisk Jr. rounding out the top five. Pole sitter Kyle Barrett finished 13th after suffering a massive engine failure with just 17 race. GRX employed Dan Lyon for a one race deal while Alex Faust was in a sponsor event in Phildelphia; Lyon finished 19th after suffering heavy right side damage in the lap one crash.
